lyrics

Really not expecting a lot today,
One or two lines will do,
Really not expecting the world the change,
Maybe just a flicker of truth.

Tell me what do you expect from me,
Here’s what I expect from you,
To come when I call you babe,
Be there when I call you.

Tell me if I’ve acted differently ,
Tell me if I’ve been cruel,
Tell me does it make any difference babe,
Tell me if you think we’re through.

Now they’re fighting on the streets in the city I was born in,
One man dreams while another man is dying,
Does anybody really know the underlying,
Truth is a thing that takes some understanding,
If dealt without compassion it is seldom that compelling,
I’m not the only one with these questions undermining me.

Come down from the ceiling babe,
There’s no need to shout,
Find strength and find healing baby,
We can figure it out.

Now they’re fighting on the streets in the city I was born in,
One man dreams while another man is dying,
Does anybody really know the underlying,
Truth is a thing that takes some understanding,
If dealt without compassion it is seldom that compelling,
I’m not the only one with these questions undermining me.

Does it matter?
Does it matter at all?
Does it matter where I stand if my head’s on the floor,
Does it matter at all?

Does it matter?
Does it matter at all?
Does it matter where I stand if my head’s in the wall,
Does it matter at all?

So they call it conflict resolution,
In a foreign territory,
Or one that lies within my sole responsibility,
And now I’m ahead of time and moving faster and faster,
Headlong into the grind,
But still falling more and more behind,
Into a thousand unwashed and unambitious,
Friends or foes I don’t know,
It’s us and them, them and us,
Dissolving all away into a catastrophic fuss,
And where does it end?
The lines between inside and out become blurred,
Like a porous skin,
Leaking and bleeding all that is within.

Now I’m standing alone in my house, my home,
While a man across the hills will never see his again,
And they’re crying out and screaming,
For justice or revenge of a fallen brother who met a bitter end but does it matter?
